    Home Sweet Home

Greetings from my fabulous hotel room high atop sunny downtown San Diego.  As mentioned in my previous post,  I have quite the travel schedule this month – but all good things and great cities. I lived in San Diego about 5 years ago where I joined Joe in running his first marathon (San Diego Rock N Roll). I love visiting here and am psyched to be back for a few days.

The Philly RNR Half is in less than two weeks. Yesterday I completed my last double-digit run (10-miler) before the big day which felt quick and strong. Such a confidence booster. So I’m taking it easy the next 12 days (yikes) but will still fit in one or two tempo/interval runs, a few easy runs, and maybe an 8-miler this weekend. Since I’m traveling, I have a feeling a lot of my runs within the next 12 days will involve hotel treadmills (sigh). However I’m staying at hotels with above average fitness centers so I definitely can’t complain. I’m also determined to stick to nutritious meals which is always a little tricky while away. Will keep you posted.

Anyways, this past weekend was spent up with my family and friends in New Hampshire and Boston. I grew up in NH and went to college in Boston – which remains my #1 favorite city. Unfortunately I am only able to get up to my parent’s house in NH and visit Boston a few times a year – so when I do I definitely try to make the most of every moment I’m there. Friday evening was spent enjoying some family time with my parents, sister, and my adorable one-year-old nephew. On Saturday morning, my mom, sister and I decided to head to Mack’s Apples – an adorable/famous orchard shop in Londonderry, NH. I actually worked at its adjoining ice cream stand in high school and still consider it the best job I ever had.

If ever in southern NH, you have to stop by Mack’s.

(Cortlands and Mckintosh are my favorite)

    Fresh veggies…

    Sweet Corn…

    Jams, Honey, & Preserves…

    Baking Mix & Sweets...

    Love it here.

Okay guys, I have to go. The weather is seriously perfect here in SD and I have a couple free hours this afternoon - so I’m off to sit outside!

Question: Any tips for eating healthy while traveling? Help!

    A Low-Key Kinda St. Patty's

So. It's St. Patrick's Day. However, as I just arrived home from a 3-day business trip, I am staying in. And I have strangely been looking forward to this evening for the past 3 days. I like to think of myself as a live-in-the-moment type of gal, but not this week. I have had my mind fixated on this glass of chardonnay and Whole Foods salad since Monday. (yum.) It was as good as I imagined.

Side note: I seriously considered adding green food coloring to my wine - but I was too afraid the Sommelier gods would curse me.

Anyhow - spent the past few days in my most favorite city, Boston. However, the week was action-packed with meetings so I hardly had any free time for nostalgia of my glory days. I did, however, wake up to this gorgeous Bostonian St. Patty's sunrise and hit the Charles for a morning 5-miler.

A welcomed break from my normal business trip routine visit to the depressing hotel "fitness center" (ahem) typically consisting of one treadmill and a broken elliptical. (Although, I did visit said "fitness center" for some post-run abs and lifting). Felt great all day.

I feel morally obligated, however, to give recognition to Residence Inns' free breakfasts, consistently stocked with fresh fruits, yogurt, granola, oats, and raisins. Just like home.

How do you stay active when travelling?

Okay, I'm off to muster up some sort of dessert that I can drizzle Bailey's on - Happy Holidays!
